The procession is carried out a day after the Diwali festival to mark the Bandi Chorh Diwas, the day when Guru Hargobind, the sixth Guru or the Master of the Sikhs, reached Amritsar after his release from Gwalior fort, along with 52 other kings with him during the reign of Mughal emperor Jahangir.
